Stage 2 — Preschool: Leading Young Hearts to Jesus Earlier

Preschoolers are curious, imaginative, and ready to wonder. Stage 2 of our pathway introduces foundational gospel truths through joy and story.

Jesus was clear about how he felt toward little children. When others tried to keep them away, he said, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14). Stage 2 of our youth pathway, Preschool, takes that invitation seriously. Between the ages of two and five, children are building the framework through which they will understand the world, and we want them to meet Jesus early, with joy.

Why the Early Years Matter

Preschoolers are remarkably open. They ask big questions: Who made the stars? Where is God? Why do people get sick? They absorb language, habits, and emotional patterns at an astonishing pace. What they hear, see, and feel in these years leaves lasting impressions.

This is not about pressuring a child to make decisions beyond their understanding. It is about filling their world with truth, kindness, and wonder so that faith feels natural rather than foreign.

Learning Through Wonder and Play

Young children learn best through experience. Sitting still for a lecture is not their strength, but stories, songs, movement, and hands-on activities are.

  • Stories. Simple narratives like Noah, David, or the lost sheep communicate profound truths in memorable form.
  • Songs and rhythm. Melodies stick. A short verse set to music can stay with a child for decades.
  • Creative play. Drawing, building, and acting out Bible stories let children process what they hear.
  • Nature and senses. A walk outside, a seed that sprouts, or a night sky can point to the Creator.

Foundational Gospel Truths for Little Ones

You do not need a theology degree to teach a preschooler. A handful of simple truths, repeated in many ways, form a strong foundation.

  1. God made you, and God loves you.
  2. God is always with you.
  3. We all make wrong choices, and Jesus forgives us.
  4. Jesus loves children and wants to be your friend.
  5. We can talk to God anytime.

These ideas, repeated through stories and daily life, give children a secure base to grow from.

The Parent's Role

Church programs help, but parents remain the primary spiritual influence in a young child's life. Deuteronomy 6 and Proverbs 22:6 both point to the home as the central place of discipleship. What does that look like with a three-year-old?

It looks like praying before meals, even if the prayer is only two sentences. It looks like reading a Bible storybook before bed. It looks like answering questions honestly and simply, and saying, "I do not know, let us find out," when needed. It looks like apologizing when you lose your patience, showing your child what forgiveness feels like.

Joy Is Not Optional

Some adults worry that making faith fun will water it down. In fact, joy is one of the best teachers a child can have. When a preschooler associates church, prayer, and Scripture with warmth and laughter, they learn that God is good. Reverence grows out of delight.

What to Expect in Our Preschool Ministry

Our early childhood programs are designed to be safe, welcoming, and age-appropriate. Sessions typically include a short story, a song, a hands-on activity, and a simple prayer. Trained volunteers and educators guide the time, and parents are encouraged to participate and take ideas home.

We also provide encouragement for caregivers, because we know that raising little ones is both a joy and a heavy responsibility.
